After a fantastic 2023 series of racing in the handicap series, along with other DYS event including the Regatta and the team racing events we held our annual end of season prize giving at Swarkestone SC on 18th November.
There were many prizes handed out to a huge range of sailors this year and it has been great to see so many of the young sailors improve and become more competitive in what has been a very tight season of races, in quite a range of sailing conditions.
Some of the notable prizes and awards are shown below.
Congratulations to Jacob Bennett for winning the Derbyshire Shield Series Trophy along with the Andrew Simpson Trophy for highest senior sailor and the Paul Brotherton Cup for the highest male helm. Jacob has sailed in DYS for quite a few years and its great to see him reach the pinnacle and win the overall series.
Reuben Lawrance from Errwood Sailing Club for winning the Ben Ainslie Trophy for the highest intermediate sailor.
Reuben has won the Ellen MacArthur Junior trophy in the previous two years and its great to see him continuing to win his age group.
Joe Sutherland for winning the Ellen MacArthur Trophy for highest junior sailor in his first year of DYS.

Well done to Patrick and Jonathan Hill (1st), George Jacobs (2nd) and Amelia Gay (3rd) at the NSSA National Regatta this year.
Amelia and George also achieved enough cumulative points to be awarded their Derbyshire Colours this year too.
Congratulations to Lily Hosty and George Jacobs for winning the Mount Haes Trophy in the match racing event during the NSSA Regatta. Quite an achievement and a very big trophy.
Congratulations also go to Luke Wilshire who won the Derbyshire Centenary Cup for the highest newcomer to qualify and also to Lucy Bambrook who won the Peak Dinghy Spares trophy for the best improver in 2024 from 2023.
Finally a huge congratulations to all of the sailors who competed in a Derbyshire team racing even this year. Well done and we look forward to seeing you all in 2024.
