Team Derbyshire had an amazing weekend of sailing at the NSSA team racing nationals held at Draycote Water Sailing Club. Some really tough competition throughout the two days but the sailors battled through.
Derbyshire Blue in the fireflies won enough races on day one to make it into the Gold fleet, with the final group stages on day 2. Sadly, due to the impressive competition they didn’t qualify for the knock-outs however well done to them for some brilliant and close team racing.
Derbyshire Green, in the fireflies, won 3 races, narrowly missing out on another on the finish line making it into the Bronze fleet and proceeded to win 5 out of 6 races resulting in winning overall in the Bronze fleet.
Finally our Derbyshire Yellow team in the RS Fevas put up a fight throughout the two days, getting into the semi-finals. The wind disappeared in the afternoon meaning Derbyshire yellow couldn’t gain the distance back on the opposition and ended up missing out in the semi final but nevertheless still coming 3rd overall in the Fevas.
Well done to everyone who competed this weekend, thank you to all involved, including umpires, committees, shore crew, parents and Draycote Water Sailing Club for hosting. Well done as well to Claire’s Court School for winning the overall event. A big thank you to Louise, our team manager, for her support and belief in the sailors!
