Swarkestone 2025

Date: 24th April 2021

Time: 9:00 am

Venue: Burton Sailing Club

Representative: John Gay

Welcome to the Burton event.

As this is the second event of the series and as the RYA COVID step 2 rules have just come into play there are a number of restrictions and additional things you will need to take note of so as to adhere to both the requirements for those sailing at Burton and also, so we meet the conditions set out in law and by the RYA. These rules need to be strictly observed.

When you arrive, you will be guided to the areas we wish you to take both your boats and your cars and be shown where you can rig and leave your boat between races. This said, we have covered some of the things that you might anticipate below from when you enter the club:

1. Please be sure to register for the event in advance so that all those supporting the event can plan accordingly.

2. When you arrive, the gate will be unlocked (but not open), if you are bringing your own boat you should carry on straight up the drive and keep going straight on until you get to the Dinghy Park, where you will be directed to unload and move your car to the car park asap. If you do not have a boat to unload you should proceed directly to the car park. Car park marshals will have NHS Test and Trace QR codes for you to scan on arrival.

3. The changing rooms will be open with limited capacity after the event.

4. The toilets in the Training Centre at the top of the Dinghy Park will be open throughout the day. The toilets will also be open in the clubhouse, where a process will be in place to limit capacity.

5. You will need to rig your boat yourself (or with the help of your parents) and whilst launching it could be helpful if your parent(s) were available to take your launching trolley from the water’s edge. The race officer will coordinate with
the beach-master so as to ensure everyone is safely on the water before the start so there is no need for anybody to rush affording ample time to spread out and socially distance. We may operate a coloured flag system to limit numbers trying to
launch simultaneously.

6. A briefing for competitors will be held outside the Training Centre in the Dinghy Park at 10.30am.

7. Signing in and payment of fees in for the event will be done outside on a table at the clubhouse. Contactless card payments or cash will be accepted.

8. Racing will commence at 11am. We plan to run one race before lunch and two races back-to-back in the afternoon session.

Please be aware we be hoping for good weather for this event and monitoring the conditions carefully. We will be keeping a close eye on the weather and may make a decision to halt racing if conditions are liable to make rescue difficult. Any vehicles entering the club must follow the organisers’ instructions for parking, and sailors and their accompanying members must follow RYA Covid-safe practice guidelines

or they may be disqualified. Takeaway refreshments will be available at the clubhouse before during and after the event where card and cash payments can be accepted.
