Welcome to the first event of this year’s DYS series we hope you enjoy this fist event of the series.

As it is the first event of the series and as the RYA COVID step 1 rules have just come into play there are a number of restrictions and additional things you will need to take note of so as to adhere to both the requirements for those sailing at Combs and also, so we meet the conditions set out in law and the RYA. These rules need to be strictly observed.

When you arrive, you will be guided to the areas we wish you to take both your boats and your cars and be shown where you can rig and leave your boat between races. This said, we have covered some of the things that you might anticipate below from when you enter the club:

1. Please be sure to register for the event in advance so that all those supporting the event can plan accordingly.

2. When you arrive, you will be directed to drive up the track to the boat park. When you arrive, someone will ask you to detach your boat and direct you as to where you can safely rig it. Your car will also be allocated a separate spot. This will be your base for changing and eating lunch. Please note that it is likely to quickly become blocked in so if you are going to need it during the day you will have to take it back to the car park at the entrance by the road and use it for a changing room there.

3. The changing rooms will be locked for the whole of the day and will not be used unless in an emergency.

4. The toilets at Combs will be open. These are located within the boat park. Please observe the one person using them at a time in each of the men’s and women’s toilets.

5. You will need to rig your boat yourself (or with the help of your parents) and whilstlaunching it could be helpful if your parent(s) were available to take your launching trolley f rom the water’s edge. At the moment the water is very high, leaving no shoreline for trolley storage and these will be needed to be stored in the boat park. There will be guidance as to what spaces can be used. There are three slipways at Combs and we plan to use all of them. The race officer will coordinate with the beachmaster so as to ensure everyone is safely on the water before the start so there is no need for anybody to rush affording ample time to spread out and socially distance.

6. A briefing for competitors will be produced and handed to competitors as they arrive.

7. Signing in for the event will be done outside on a table provided for the purpose.

8. Racing will commence at 11am. We plan to run one race before lunch and two races back-to-back in the afternoon session. We will also be reducing the time we allow for lunch to a minimum as we want to avoid people either being bored and cold or congregating.

9. Please be aware we be hoping for good weather for this event and monitoring the conditions carefully. Because under the COVID regulations we will try to have boats with two people from the same household in them. Power boat drivers will have face masks to hand out if required. We will be keeping a close eye on the weather and may make a decision to halt racing if conditions are liable to make rescue difficult.

Refreshments will not be available due to the Covid guidelines constraints so please bring all the food and drink you need for the day.
